A Memory of Light
Character Summaries
Special Abilities
Alanna is an Aes Sedai with strength in the power 17(5). She is of the Green Ajah. She has enough strength to Travel. She has ability with Healing and uses it frequently throughout the series. She has a bond with Rand which allows her to track him and be aware of his well being. But unlike her bonds with her other warders this one did not allow her to compel Rand.
Notable Possessions
Alanna has a warder bond with Ivhon, Owein (until his death) and Rand Al’Thor.
Legacy
Alanna is best known for bonding Rand Al’Thor against his will, an action that has been described as being akin to rape. Some speculate Verin compelled Alanna to bond Rand. Whether that is true or not, Alanna’s standing amongst the Aes Sedai who knew of this bond fell dramatically. Even the weakest in the power felt they could disrespect Alanna and give her orders. Despite suspicions throughout the series about her motives Alanna turned out to be on the side of light. Her bond to Rand gave him the abilities of a warder at a critical time. It is difficult to see Rand standing up to the punishment he received prior to Dumai’s Wells without the added stamina and resistance to injury. The bond helped negate the effects of Rand’s habit of missing sleep and meals. Additionally, her using the bond to help his allies find him proved critical both at Dumai’s Wells and Far Madding. Her releasing the bond at a critical moment thwarted another gambit from Moridin.
She helped save the Two Rivers. She healed Perrin. She and Verin helped recruit many new novices for the White Tower. Without Alanna’s actions this would be a very different series.
